The Windows 7 End of Life date has been announced: January 14, 2020 – even sooner for those who don’t download a recent security update. This means Microsoft will no longer update or support the operating system after that date.
And, while Windows 7 is a decade old at this point – launching on July 22, 2009 – it’s still incredibly popular, with recent reports from Netmarketshare suggesting that Windows 7 is still being used on 39% of all PCs.
So, the news that Windows 7 will no longer be supported by Microsoft means there are many users out there who need to start thinking about finally moving on from Windows 7.
When Windows 7 reaches its End of Life phase on January 14, 2020, Microsoft will stop releasing updates and patches for the operating system. It’s likely that it also won’t offer help and support if you encounter any problems.
Here at innovate IT we can take the pain out of upgrading your PCs to Windows 10. In our experience it is better to backup all of your files then install a fresh copy of Windows 10 onto your PC. Also this means that if you are still running a 32bit version of Windows 7, and your CPU supports it, we can install the more stable 64bit version.
Providing you have licences for your software and they support Windows 10, then all will be OK. If not Windows 10 licences start as little as £30.
Most branded PCs running Windows 7 will have the Windows 7 licence key embedded in the BIOS on the mainboard. This means that Windows 10 can be activated using a digital licence at no extra cost. We can check this prior to the upgrade.
What we do:
1. Asses upgrade options based on hardware requirements. Upgrades to memory for example may be required. If your PC does not have a digital licence we will quote competitively for a Windows 10 licence.
2. Backup all files from the PC and note all installed software (using cloud where possible).
3. Format hard drive and install Windows 10, updating drivers and installing updates.
4. Install your software.
5. Restore your files and folders.
We offer this service for only £40 per PC. Business owners with multiple PCs would need to contact us for a competitive quote and time frame.
